| Congratulations to Joanne Figuera on her victory at the second Holdem Northwest Invitational Tournament, held on October 24h at the Greek Village. Joanne, playing for the Crazy Eights team, bested Brendan Hoyt of Sgt. Duck and the Pirates, who placed second, and Jason Krahn of the Ruby Ranch Hands, who took third. Sixty three players took part. |
| October 8X8 Tournament an Unqualified Success |
| The tournament format was an 8 x 8 shootout, with one player from each team at each table. Each table played until only one was left, and those 8 played at the Final Table. |
| The teams: The Crazy Eights, led by Emmy Costello; Alice’s Tea Party, captained by Alice Anderson (the proprietess of Bob & Alice’s, making her first tournament appearance); The Educator, led by substitute teacher Greig Bevans (who, interestingly, had some substitute members); The Ruby Ranch Hands, headed by Ray Drake; The Sunday Nighters, led by Nate Lambert who hopes that nobody noticed that his team was the very first one to be completely eliminated from the tournament; The Freakin’ Ace Holes, led by Lisa DeBorde, who somehow got that name past our censors; Six High led by Tim Olsen, who apparently did not know how many players were on his team; and Sgt. Duck and the Pirates, led by Paula Thurber, who has not stopped boasting that her team placed three members at the final table. |
| The final results:
First: Joanne Figuera, The Crazy Eights Second: Brendan Hoyt, Sgt Duck and the Pirates Third: Jason Krahn, The Ruby Ranch Hands Fourth: Phil Bates, The Educators Fifth: Steve Haney, The Crazy Eights Sixth: Enrique Ruiz Diaz, Sgt Duck and the Pirates Seventh: Justin Moshofsky, Six High Eighth: Andy Bartha, Sgt Duck and the Pirates |
| As players were eliminated, we ran five “Sit and Go” tournaments, for standard points. This has proven so popular that it will be a permanent feature at all of our tournaments. |
| A big THANKS to Bob Szydlowski, Kevin Larkin, Greig Bevans, Nate Lambert, John D’Angelo, Cary Prokop, Steve Haney, Brian Seggerman and everyone else who helped to set up, keep track of players, run the satellite games, collect chips, run the timer and tear down at the end. You all truly made the event a success. |
| LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK
This was only our third tournament, and we are still working the bugs out. We plan to have one tournament each month, using the shootout format and standard format on alternating months. It seems to work well. But we need to know what you think. Please let us know how to make future tournaments even better. Contact Sam or Darby at the email addresses listed on the Contact Us page, or talk to us at the next game! |
