| 32. Dealing:
A- The Shuffle and Cut: The dealer must riffle the cards a minimum of four times to achieve a legitimate shuffle. The cards should not be riffled more than seven times. A Wash is not a riffle. The dealer is required to offer a cut to the first player on their right, (except when a dedicated dealer*2 is being used). The player is under no obligation to cut the cards, and no other player is entitled to a cut. |
| B- Absent Players:
If a player whose turn it is to post a blind is not present at the deal, the Dealer may post the absent player’s blind, or the Dealer may request another player to do so. Only the Dealer has the authority to manipulate another player’s chips. |
| C- Manipulating the Pot:
The dealer alone has the authority to manipulate the chips in the pot. This rule is especially important when there are all-ins and side pots involved. Players not dealing must refrain from reaching into the pot to sort chips, stack side pots or make change. The dealer may ask a single player for help if he wishes. |
| D- Pre-Burning Cards:
The dealer should never pre-burn a card. It causes disruption, and it negates the main purpose of the burn card. (The Burn Card is intended to act as a safety shield against players who may note a mark on a card). |
| E- Shuffling with the Cut Card:
The cut card is intended as a guard to prevent players from seeing the bottom card on the deck during the deal. The deck should never be shuffled with the cut card. |
| F- Dealer’s Cut:
The Dealer should not cut just before offering the cut. This negates the effect of the cut. The Dealer should always only riffle before offering a cut. |
| G- The Cut:
The minimum number of cards in a legitimate cut is six. |
| H- Misdeals:
Misdeal occurs when: A card is exposed to the big blind, the small blind or the dealer. Two or more cards have been inadvertently exposed. Two or more boxed cards are found. Two or more extra cards have been dealt at the start of a hand. An incorrect number of cards has been dealt to a player, except when the top card may be dealt to the proper position in sequence. Cards have been dealt to an empty seat, or to a player not entitled to a hand. A player entitled to a hand has been dealt out. A misdeal can no longer be called when two players have acted. Your hand is declared dead when: You muck your cards, or declare a fold when it is your turn to act. You fail to act when the time expires on a called clock. You are not present at the table when it becomes your turn to act. |
